US Air Force Reserve Station, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
A U.S. Air Force Reserve Station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was concerned that heavy metals, including lead and copper, from spent ammunition rounds was being washed by stormwater runoff into a nearby waterway. To address the risk, the U.S. Air Force hired Hillman Environmental Group, a nationwide, full-service environmental consulting firm, to recommend a passive stormwater treatment Best Management Practice (BMP) capable of removing these toxic pollutants and protecting the environment.
Staff from Hillman Environmental Group considered a multitude of options before specifying a StormwateRx Claraź 25C Plug Flow Separator. The Clara was selected for its unique ability to settle particulates, including heavy metals, while preventing pollutant wash-out during large storm events. The Clara Plug Flow Separator was easily retrofit to the existing firing range drainage system, reducing the capital cost of the project.
