JT Marine, Inc. of Battleground, WA installed a portable, self-contained Aquip® 50SBI filtration system for pre-treatment of hydroblast water, washwater and industrial stormwater in September 2008. The Aquip filtration system was installed upon the recommendation of PND Engineers (Seattle, WA) for JT Marine to secure its NPDES permit to operate a new 1200-ton drydock and boat maintenance and repair facility on the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington.
Industrial process and stormwater from the 50’ x 200’ drydock is pumped to an above ground detention tank which flows by gravity through the Aquip filtration system before being discharged to the City of Vancouver sanitary sewer system. The Washington Department of Ecology determined that hydroblast wastewater collection, treatment, and discharge from JT Marine’s drydock to a municipal sewerage system is consistent with technology-based requirements as “all known, available, and reasonable methods of treatment” (AKART).
“PND Engineers, Inc. is an innovative heavy civil marine water front design firm that specializes in ports, marinas and shipyards and has been in the business for over 30-years... As the regulations have become stricter and tougher to meet, the old technologies don’t meet the new requirements or have become extremely complex and expensive to operate. Because it was simple to use and performed very well in a pilot study program approved by the Department of Ecology, the StormwateRx system was easy to recommend to JT Marine and the regulatory ground work by StormwateRx in the pilot study program made it simple to permit with the department. StormwateRx was helpful, knowledgeable, and responsive whenever any questions came up.” ~ Gary Watters, PND Engineers, Inc.
Site best management practices (BMPs) and theAquip filtration system have consistently met the necessary performance requirements and City of Vancouver wastewater pretreatment standards. Below is a summary of Aquip performance data from one recent sampling event.3
