StormwateRx provided this urban scrap metal recycler with state-of-the-art stormwater treatment systems for two of its ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal recycling yards. Units provided to CASS were two Aquip® enhanced media filtration systems with coalescing oil pre-treatment, a 210SOE and a 160SOE and a Clara® 40C plug-flow separator. StormwateRx selected these systems based upon the site’s specific pollutant needs as well as known pollutants commonly found in scrap yard stormwater runoff. StormwateRx integrated the passive Clara and Aquip systems into the stormwater conveyance system at CASS with the Clara system as pretreatment to the Aquip. With the treatment train approach the stormwater runoff first passes through the Clara settling system, for pretreatment of settleable solids and free oil. Then, it’s pumped through the Aquip filtration system for trace oil, fine solids and dissolved metals removal. The project was performed without disrupting facility operations and stormwater upgrades are helping this customer maintain its reputation of community stewardship as urban renewal fills in around them.
